Rare footage shows the moment a lightning bolt slammed into the sea off the coast of England.
The astonishing clip shows a massive arc of lightning strike and light up the stormy seas at around 3.15pm on Sunday.
It came as thunderstorms battered Dorset overnight with a band of heavy rain throughout the weekend.
Charlotte Chapman, 32, captured the footage and accompanying photograph, taken off the coast of Portland.
The stock control supervisor for bookers wholesaler has just moved back to the island, which is attached to the coast by a sand bar, after having lived in Bristol for the past 11 years.
"All I've done is stare out to sea since I've been home," she said.
"I've missed this so much and taken it for granted when I lived here as a child and young adult.
"Hence after a quick weekend break with my partner, we both decided to move back home.
"This picture was taken from the top of Woolcombe Road.
"I had been watching the storm coming in and managed to get a video and freeze framed this amazing shot."
Experts at NASA estimate that despite 70 per cent of the earth being covered by water.
But just two per cent of lightning strikes occur over water.
Recent lightning strikes on land include a bolt that struck a newly built home in the middle of a construction site in Cornwall.
Footage released by firefighters dealing with the aftermath shows the lightning bolt hitting the top of the roof in Redruth.
In another recent strike on land, a beloved mum was killed by a lightning bolt while on holiday in Croatia with her children.
Daniella DiMambro, 48, suffered injuries which later led to her death following the freak accident on a beach near Split, an inquest heard on Wednesday.
The mother-of-two suffered an "out of hospital cardiac arrest" after being struck on August 20, the coroner said.
In September, a bolt of lightning struck an easyJet wing mid-flight after it took off from Milan, Italy.
The aircraft was forced to swiftly land in Bari rather than reaching its destination in Naples.
