Moment hero police find 'disorientated' Scots OAP lost in woodland

The moment hero officers found a ‘disorientated’ Scots pensioner lost in woodland near his home has been caught on a police helicopter camera.

Thomas Duncan sparked a major search after disappearing from his home in Dunfermline, Fife, at around 4.45pm on Thursday, December 1.

Concerns were growing for his welfare as investigators appealed for help from members of the public to find the 65-year-old, who wasn’t wearing suitable winter clothing.

Police Scotland’s Air Unit was drafted in to help scour the Headwell area of the town, with the OAP spotted by aircrew shortly after 8pm.

They were able to direct officers through the dense overgrown area to Mr Duncan’s location with him taken home ‘safe and well’ a short time later.

The force tweeted: “Police helicopter assisted Fife Police at Dunfermline last night in the search for a vulnerable missing person.

“Aircrew spotted the male in a densely overgrown area near his home. Police on the ground directed to him where he was found safe and well and taken home.”
