Moment foolish man kicks fearsome reptile while wearing only flip flops

A daredevil was fortunate to escape with merely a small cut to his foot after kicking a caiman whilst wearing a pair of flip flops.

The creature snapped its jaws, and footage depicts the man grinning as he approaches the reptile.

His friend filming can be heard laughing and shouting "watch out".

All of a sudden the caiman is spotted snapping at the man's foot with its sharp teeth, causing him to flinch back in fear.

His friend shouted "you're mad".

The man's flip flop was left behind, and the footage culminated with a close-up shot of his cut and bleeding foot.

The incident took place in the Ponta da Serra neighbourhood of Itaitinga, Ceara state, north-eastern Brazil on Sunday morning.

The Fire Department reported that the caiman was captured at around 5pm and sent to a search and rescue post in nearby Fortaleza.

When firemen retrieved it - as seen in a second piece of footage - it was tied to a post, but it was reported to be uninjured.

The Fire Department reminded locals not to approach or try to handle wild animals found in urban areas or in their natural habitat.

In the case of the former, it told members of the public to either call the Fire Department or the Environmental Military Police.

Last year a fisherman's body went missing following an attack by pirates and he was found being eaten by a 10-foot caiman in the Amazon.

Elias Araujo had been reported missing after he had been targeted by over seven pirates, and it remains unclear if they murdered him and threw his body in the water or whether he was attacked by the reptile while fleeing.

He had been missing since last Saturday, October 16, before his remains were found by locals on the banks of the Rio Negro river during its course through the municipality of Novo Airao in the Brazilian state of Amazonas.

The fisherman's body was spotted as it was being devoured by a black caiman by locals who said that the reptile was over 3 metres (10 feet) long.

The local chief of police, Renato Simoes, confirmed that the fisherman's body had been found, according to local media reports.
