Moment driver 'rams' into police car before speeding off leaving two officers injured

CCTV footage has captured the moment a driver 'rammed' into a police car before speeding off. The incident was reported on Whitworth Road in Rochdale on Tuesday evening (June 27).

Greater Manchester Police said officers had been following the car, which had been acting suspiciously before it was reversed into a police vehicle and driven away at around 5.50pm. The crash caused the airbags to go off and left two officers in hospital.

The force has now shared footage of the incident as they continue to investigate and trace the car, a white Ford Ranger, and the driver responsible.

Neighbourhood Inspector Meena Yasin at Rochdale said: "We are looking for a white, Ford Ranger that has damage to the rear. We believe that the vehicle was travelling on false plates.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who has seen the vehicle, who may have witnessed the incident last night or anyone who has any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage focusing on Whitworth Road in Rochdale at the time.

"This vehicle purposefully and forcefully rammed into the police officers vehicle and moved it backwards by approximately 20 metres, causing the airbags in the vehicle to go off. Both officers had to attend hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, quoting log number 003149-27062023. Alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity - Crimestoppers - anonymously on 0800 555 111.
