Bruno Guimaraes' imagination appears to hold no bounds as he continues to thrill Newcastle United fans in a black and white shirt. Heard the one about the bloke who once tackled somebody with a backheel, nutmegged him and went on to score? If not read on...
When you think of defensive midfielders at United and great names like Paul Bracewell or David Batty spring to mind, but in Newcastle's boy from Brazil they seem to have a player that has it all. After an intense week of training in scorching Austria any player could have been forgiven for easing off a little bit with Newcastle two up against 1860 Munich.
But when Jesper Verlaat took an iffy touch, Bruno who had already anticipated he was going to be in trouble audaciously tackled him with a backheel before nutmegging his opponent in one fell swoop! And he wasn't finished there as he exchanged passes with Chris Wood before firing the ball home to score a wonderfully crafted goal for the Magpies.
Yes, it is only pre-season and yes it is only a friendly but the 250 Newcastle fans who have made the long journey over to Austria were rewarded in style. In a game played out amid a backdrop of the picturesque and almost dreamlike Leogang Mountains, Bruno's 29 minute cameo was just as breathtaking as he dismantled 1860 Munich.
Having weighed in with an assist for Sean Longstaff who doubled the lead before Bruno's exquisite killer goal you wonder what heights the Brazil star could hit this season. Remember the days when Eddie Howe eased him into the team?
Well those days are long gone, with Bruno the first name on the team sheet and proving he was worth every penny of the £33million United paid Lyon last January. Newcastle could make him even happier by signing his mate Lucas Paqueta.
Lucas has been linked with Arsenal and is keen on the Premier League. Although, Newcastle are looking at wingers rather than another central midfielder.
If fans were playing fantasy football though you'd love to see Newcastle just go for Lucas and the coaching staff make it all work somehow! As Kevin Keegan once said: "You can't have too many good players!"
Well, Bruno is the type of player Keegan would love and a star that he'd constantly have his arm around urging him to go on and turn on the style for the supporters. Newcastle have a real ace on their hands in Bruno, the only problem could be attracting stars as good as him moving forward.
