A mom in New Mexico pled guilty to killing her daughter's boyfriend and blaming it on her teen son.

Elizabeth Ortiz-Chavez, 49, drove her son, Angelo Baldonado, to Albuquerque in March 2022 to fight her daughter's boyfriend, Josue Ruiz, for allegedly hitting her daughter while she was pregnant, according to reporting by Law & Crime.

Ortiz-Chavez shot and killed Ruiz during the fight then told police it was her son who pulled the trigger because she thought he wouldn't be charged as an adult. However, Baldonado took the fall for his mother to protect their family and he was sentenced.

Their scheme unraveled after in March 2023 Baldonado's brother told a woman, who then contacted police, that Ruiz was innocent.

"I have an older brother locked up because of her," he told the woman, Law & Crime reported. "... I hate her for what she did. He deserves to be home with his daughter. She'll never know him at all because she's a selfish b---h."

He added that Ortiz-Chavez is "the worst of the worst."

The suspect was arrested and pled guilty to all charges. She faces up to 18 years in prison if she's convicted.

Her son will also remain in prison to complete a four-year sentence for assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
