Reel life became real life for Molly Ringwald.
The actress shared that her mother forgot her birthday last week — just like what happened to her character in the seminal coming-of-age movie “Sixteen Candles.”
Ringwald, 54, posted a screenshot image showing a text message exchange with her mom, during which the actress wrote, “You don’t have anything else to say to me today?”
“I didn’t realize it was the 18th today. Happy Birthday!” her mother replied. “I haven’t got your present in the mail. Will do very soon.”
In 1984′s “Sixteen Candles,” the family of Ringwald’s Samantha forgets her 16th birthday at the beginning of the film.
Ringwald pointed out the coincidence to her mother, writing, “Life imitates art.”
“It took me a few more years to forget,” Ringwald’s mom replied, earning a laughing emoji icon from the actress.
“Sixteen Candles” was the first film directed by John Hughes, who went on to helm similarly classic films such as “The Breakfast Club,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Pretty in Pink” and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”
Ringwald also starred in “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink.”
