Molly McCann races into crowd after stunning spinning elbow KO at UFC London

Molly McCann ran into the crowd after scoring a knockout of the year contender in her fight at UFC London.

McCann was hoping to pick up her second win on the bounce when she faced Brazilian flyweight Luana Carolina on the main card of the London event. She opened up the fight with a relentless pace, charging towards Carolina at any moment she got and unleashing a barrage of punches.

McCann had her opponent hurt several times in the opening round, but the Brazilian did well to defend herself and clinch. McCann took a different approach in the second round, mixing in her takedowns along with her striking.

‘Meatball’ took down Carolina twice in the round, although the lengthy Brazilian had some success of her own after she got back to her feet and started to land some good strikes. The Liverpudlian was inevitably up on the scorecards heading into the final round, but that didn’t stop her from keeping up a quick pace.

With almost three minutes left of the fight, McCann closed the distance and unleashed a perfect spinning-elbow that caught Carolina by surprise. The Brazilian was unconscious before she fell to the canvas as the London crowd unleashed an almighty roar for their home fighter.

McCann then jumped over the octagon fence and ran around the cage wall before leaping into the front row of the London crowd. After embracing UFC boss Dana White, she got her hands on a UFC belt and proudly walked around the octagon whilst raising it in the air.

'Meatball' also revealed she didn’t throw the unorthodox strike by fluke, stating: “We drill that everyday,” she said. “I’m ready to go. I’m ready to punch all night. Thank you very much [Luana Carolina] for pushing me. I’m so bloody happy.”

The 31-year-old is now unbeaten in her last two fights after brutally knocking out Carolina in the English capital. McCann admitted her UFC future was in jeopardy a year ago after she suffered consecutive losses to Talia Santos and Lara Procopio.
