Molly-Mae's baby name's very simple meaning as fans divided on the Disney moniker

Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury 's newborn baby's name has a very simple meaning that has nothing to do with Disney!

The new parents - who officially announced on Monday that their first child was born on January 23 - have divided fans thanks to naming their baby daughter Bambi.

Former Love Island star Molly-Mae, 23, previously admitted people would either "love or hate" her child's moniker - explaining she had the name picked out since she was a baby girl herself.

As the PrettyLittleThing creative director revealed Bambi's name on Instagram on Tuesday night, many took to social media to discuss Molly-Mae's newborn's unique title and the 1942 Disney film of the same name.

But the name Bambi actually has an interesting background and meaning unrelated to cartoon deers.

The moniker- Italian in origin - comes from the words 'bambino' and 'bambina' which mean 'baby boy' and 'baby girl' respectively.

"Does Molly-Mae not know what happened to Bambi’s mum," one Twitter user mused on Tuesday night as Molly-Mae shared a snap of her newborn's nursery and revealed her child's name to fans.

Bambi, the 1942 Disney cartoon, tells the story of white-tailed deer Bambi following the young animal watching his mother being shot and killed by a hunter.

"1. Bambi is a boy 2. Bambi’s mum dies 3. This film scarred me as a child," another added on Twitter as Molly-Mae and Tommy's baby name decision was discussed online.

"Oh deer," one cheeky commentator, with another suggesting: "I mean I love molly-mae but let’s be serious if anyone else called their wain Bambi they’d be hung drawn n quartered."

"Molly mae had 24 hours to pick the name but chose Bambi. let’s hope they never go ice skating," one Twitter user joked - referencing the new mum's infamous past comments about work ethic.

But many of the reality TV star's fans love the unique moniker.

"I have so much love for Molly-Mae that I think I'm even warming up to the name Bambi," one Twitter user mused on Tuesday.

Another defended the star from cruel critics, writing: "I’ve never watched Love Island and I’m not a Molly-Mae follower, but imagine going through the whirlwind of childbirth and then having thousands of people relentlessly mocking your child’s name on social media.

"Bambi is actually a sweet name for a girl."

"Unpopular opinion but I love the name Bambi," one fan of the title declared, with another agreeing as they tweeted: "Shook to say it but I love the name Bambi."

It seems Molly-Mae was prepared for the mixed reaction to her baby's name, thanks to the star previously admitting she knew people would either love or hate her first born child's title.

When discussing her baby name ideas while pregnant, the star explained: "It's not made up, it's totally not made up, I can't explain it. It's just not a name that's ever been used before. It's very very different and rare and you're either going to love it or hate it.

"I've had the name picked out since I was a baby girl myself. It's always been a dream baby girl name and luckily when I met Tommy and I told him the name I've always dreamt of using, he absolutely loved it too.

"It's a really really unusual and a different name, I do not know anybody else with the name. I've not seen any other girls with the name before, it's that different."
