Molly-Mae Hague says 'we need to stop normalising filler' after fears over 'botched' face

Molly-Mae Hague has called for an end to the normalisation of cosmetic fillers following fears that she looked like a person from an extreme plastic surgery reality show.

The Manchester Love Island star, who had the fillers in her face dissolved, has told Cosmpolitan UK that it shouldn't be considered normal for young girls to change their appearance with cosmetic procedures.

Molly-Mae, 22, was worried that she resembled someone from the reality show Botched which sees doctors remedy extreme plastic surgeries gone wrong.

The reality star, who found fame in 2019 when she coupled up with Manchester boxer Tommy Fury on the ITV2 reality show Love Island, said she a turning point came when she took a selfie during a club appearance and was shocked by what she saw.

She said: "I was doing a club appearance and took a selfie. I remember staring at it and thinking 'I don't know what I've done to my face.'

"I went from looking like a teenager to someone on Botched. I've never thought of myself as insecure, but I must have been to do that."

She added: "We need to stop normalising filler, with things like 'Kylie Jenner (surgery) packages.'

"I was 17 when I first got my lips done, and it scares me to think that if I have a daughter in 10 years' time, what it might be like for her.

"I sometimes forget how young my followers are, too. I'm often surprised by the fact some of the girls in my DMs even have a phone."

Last year the beauty was flooded with compliments after showing off her new toned-down look.

She took fans on a journey to have her lip filler removed on her YouTube channel after having the procedure done since she was 17.

She said: "This is something I've been putting off now for the last six months.

"I am getting my lips dissolved. My lip filler journey has been a very, very long one.

"I've been getting my lips filled with filler since I was about 17 which is literally ridiculous."

She also had her teeth done to make them look more natural.

"I'm going through a journey at the moment with everything," she explained.

"I'm really toning things down and making myself feel a lot more natural.

"I'm even undergoing things with my teeth at the moment to get them more natural.

"I've had things done all throughout my face I feel like I'm starting to go back o the way I used to look before I had filler and I'm really, really happy about it."

Before having the lip filler removed she said they felt hard with lumps and bumps, and they were uneven.

After the dissolving procedure she said excitedly: "They're not there anymore, they're gone.

"It's gone from being rock solid. I'm really happy about it.

"I feel like I've gone back to being the 15-year-old me."

Molly-Mae, who moved in with Tommy after they fell in love on the hit show, said she was overwhelmed with work offers when she left the villa.

She said: "I'll never forget how many people wanted to work with me. They brought me flowers and one offered me a car, even though I couldn't drive. There were huge (financial) figures being thrown around."

But the social media influencer says she's worked hard to protect herself and look after her family and she bought her sister a car last Christmas.

She said she was also impressed by the aftercare support she received from Love Island after her stint on the show, saying: "It was second to none ... I think they've really stepped up their game, to the point where Tommy and I joked that they contacted us too much.

"The welfare team couldn't have done more for me. They offer counselling if you need it, and I can imagine they'll improve even more for the next season."

The new series of Love Island starts on Monday June 28.

The July/August issue of Cosmopolitan is on sale from June 10.
