Molly-Mae Hague says she got therapy after 'really struggling' from '24 hours' backlash

Molly-Mae Hague said she got a therapist after 'really struggling' a few months ago amid the backlash over her 'tone deaf' comment, "we all have the same 24 hours in a day".

The former Love Island star, 22, was met with fierce criticism in January for the remarks she made about her background and privilege in The Diary of a CEO podcast.

Taking to her YouTube channel on Thursday, Molly-Mae spoke about how she sought therapy and how she has had to "learn to grow a thick skin" after the furore.

"I did get a therapist. I got it a few months ago because I thought at the time I really, really needed it,” she shared.

"She helped me understand it's good for me to control my thoughts, that's something I've been working on recently and my next goal is to continue working on being in a good place mentally," Molly added.

The PrettyLittleThing creative director said "everything else feels good and falls into place and feels better" when she’s happy, but admitted she needed to see a therapist because she didn’t want to “burden” her loved ones when she’s feeling down.

“I got to a place in my life a few months ago where I was really struggling with things. I hate to burden people around me with my problems,” she continued.

“They've got their own things to worry about. I kind of felt like if I got a therapist this would be a good place for me to offload and just talk about how I'm feeling,” Molly added.

The model and influencer, who is reportedly a millionaire thanks to her endorsement deals, said she’s “immune” to the negativity and “hate” she receives.

"I've had to grow such thick skin over the last six months and learn that not everyone isn't going to like you," she explained.

Molly-Mae went viral when she told host Steven Bartlett on his podcast: "I understand we all have different backgrounds and we're all raised in different ways and we do have different financial situations, but I think if you want something enough you can achieve it,” she explained.

"It just depends on what lengths you want to go to get where you want to be in the future. And I'll go to any length,” Molly stated.

She went on to be slammed on Twitter, with people labelling her "tone deaf" and "Thatcherite".

Molly was heavily criticised for the comments during her appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast (The Diary Of A CEO/Youtube)

Later addressing the controversy in a statement, Molly-Mae's representatives said: "If you listen to the full conversation and interview, Molly was asked about how the nature of her potential grows and how she believes in herself.

"This part of the interview was discussing time efficiency relating to success. Molly refers to a quote which says ‘We all have the same 24 hours in a day as Beyonce ’. She was discussing her own experience and how she can resonate with this specific quote.

"Her opinion on if you want something enough you can work hard to achieve it is how she keeps determined with her own work to achieve more in her own life. Molly is not commenting on anyone else’s life or personal situation. She can only speak of her own experience."
