Molly-Mae Hague 'doesn't talk about' PrettyLittleThing reputation for low paid workers

An interview with Molly-Mae Hague was awkwardly shut down when questions turned to her role as Creative Director of Pretty Little Thing.

The 23-year-old reality star was seemingly handed the top job with the Manchester based fast fashion company in August last year, in a rumoured £500,000 deal – sparking a wave of questions, curiosity and controversy.

Molly-Mae became embroiled in scandal by being associated with the brand due to the fact that it was exposed by the Sunday Times 2020 of paying factory worker staff below minimum wage – while the company itself is said to be worth £316 million.

Molly-Mae only made matters worse when she dictated to her social media followers that they too could be as rich and famous as she is if only they ‘believed’ they could do it – overlooking the fact that many agree she looks like she’s never worked a hard day in her life.

During a sit down with The Sunday Times Magazine, Molly-Mae was quizzed about her role as Creative Director for the brand – only for her manager to butt in and issue a verbal cease and desist to the questioner.

The magazine’s report states: “I ask what her role as creative director of PrettyLittleThing involves, expecting her to enthuse about her burgeoning profile as a businesswoman and the fact that she is, as she says, ‘so much more’ than an Instagrammer now.

“However, at this point her manager, Fran Britton — who is on the call and every bit as aggressively glamorous as her client — jumps in.”

They then quote Fran barking: “That’s a big misconception with the role, that people think she’s involved in all aspects of the business. And that isn’t the case.”

While the manager says that the former Love Island star simply provides a “creative vision” for the brand.

The report then continues: “I assume the reticence is because PrettyLittleThing was exposed in a 2020 Sunday Times investigation that found it was using factories in Leicester that paid well below the minimum wage. PLT says it has since strengthened its supplier standards.

“I try again, asking Hague how important reputation is when she is choosing collaborators. ‘That’s not something Molly speaks about,’ Fran says, tersely.”

The interview is then forced to move on to other topics – with Molly-Mae going on to explain she hopes to soon marry her boyfriend, Tommy Fury, 23.

Last year Molly-Mae sparked fury with ‘tone deaf’ comments about her own success.

She told a podcast: “You’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it. You can literally go in any direction.

When I’ve spoken about that in the past I have been slammed a little bit, with people saying ‘it’s easy for you to say that because you’ve not grown up in poverty, so for you to sit there and say we all have the same 24 hours in a day is not correct.’ But, technically, what I’m saying is correct. We do.”

She added: “I’ve worked my absolute arse off to get where I am now” – which angered many who felt she has achieved nothing more than find fame via Love Island.
