Molly-Mae Hague has hit back at criticism over her decision to return to work just weeks after giving birth to her first child, saying she had no choice as she had bills to pay and isn’t entitled to maternity pay.
The former Love Island star-turned-Pretty Little Things creative director, 23, welcomed daughter Bambi with boyfriend Tommy Fury, also 23, in January.
She raised eyebrows earlier this month when she revealed that she was heading back to work and taking part in her first photoshoot for the fast fashion brand post-baby.
While many assume that with her multi-million-pound mansion in Cheshire, she can afford to sit back and enjoy her time as a new mum, she says that simply isn’t the case.
Addressing the issue in a new vlog shared to her YouTube channel, Hague pointed out that she is self-employed and one of the drawbacks to that is she isn’t entitled to maternity leave pay.
Speaking in the clip, she said: “At the end of the day I am self-employed so I have to work because there’s bills to pay, we’ve got a mortgage to pay, car bills to pay; I’ve got outgoings that I have to earn. I don’t get a maternity leave pay, you don’t when you’re self-employed. So I have to get back to work.”
Elsewhere in the video, Hague also spoke about taking Bambi on her first family holiday to Dubai and why she feels she needs to be careful with what she shares online having been mum-shamed multiple times.
