Moises Caicedo to Arsenal transfer explained as Edu makes surprise Jorginho move

Arsenal's pursuit of Moises Caicedo has been well documented over the past few days. football.london understands the Gunners made the 21-year-old their top target and Edu had hoped to seal a deal for the Ecuador international.

Brighton & Hove Albion have rejected two bids from Arsenal for the player, however. Edu lodged a £60million bid on Friday before trying his luck again with a £70million offer on Sunday.

football.london understands that Brighton do not want to sell the player and with the window closing at 11pm on Tuesday, a deal at this stage looks unlikely. This stance is despite the player's pleas on social media to be allowed a move.

Arsenal insist they had nothing to do with the social media posts released on Friday night by Caicedo and are respectful of the Seagulls' stance, but have always remained hopeful a deal can be done if Roberto De Zerbi's side bring in a replacement. Brighton did complete a deal for Swedish midfielder Yasin Ayari yesterday.

With a deadline day deal for Caicedo now looking unlikely, football.london understands Arsenal do have an interest in Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. The Italian is out of contract in the summer and it's understood the Blues are open to letting him leave if the fee is suitable as they near a deal for Benfica's Enzo Fernandez.

football.london understands the Gunners agreed a £12million deal with Chelsea for the midfielder on Tuesday morning. The former Napoli man has been given permission to travel to London Colney ahead of a move.

Arsenal will pay £10million up front for the Italian international with a further £2million in add-ons which could hinge on conditions such as whether or not Arsenal win the Premier League. The 31-year-old will join on an initial 18 month contract with the option to extend by a further year.
