Moises Caicedo appears to delete his Instagram after post begging for transfer backfired

Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has apparently deleted his Instagram account – weeks after using the platform to try and secure a transfer away from the club.

Caicedo appeared to bid farewell to the Seagulls in late January after posting a heartfelt message on the social media platform - but now his 'moises_caicedo55' account no longer appears to exist.

Caicedo was the subject of a £60million bid from Arsenal two months ago, but the offer was turned down by the south coast side. The Ecuador international attempted to take it into his own hands to force an exit, but this tactic did not pay off. The midfielder was forced to stay put at Brighton for the remainder of the campaign, although the subject of his future is likely to resurface soon.

The 21-year-old is under contract with Brighton until June 2025, who are under no financial pressure to sell. The midfielder is being monitored by the Gunners and Chelsea, who also saw an approach for the player knocked back in January.

In his attempt to leave the club with his public post, Caicedo thanked Seagulls owner Tony Bloom for handing him his chance in the Premier League. However, he insisted that the time is right for him to move on – arguing that his exit would bring in a club-record sale for Brighton in the process.

The midfield ace was subsequently issued a stay-at-home warning by the club for the closing days of the January transfer window, which saw him sit out the FA Cup victory over Liverpool before being reintegrated back into the fold.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi said after the episode: "In life, you can make mistakes. There are many solutions for everyone, and we will see the best solution for the club, for him and for us."

The Seagulls have not been averse to selling star players in recent windows. Last summer saw the exits of Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma to Chelsea and Tottenham respectively, while Leandro Trossard joined Arsenal earlier this month – a year-and-a-half after Ben White left the Seagulls to join the North London club.

Caicedo joined Brighton in a deal worth £4.5million from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle in 2021 and has established himself as a key player for the club in the past year, while also impressing for his nation at the 2022 World Cup.
