Moi Elyounoussi coy over bubbling Celtic transfer return as admirer Brendan Rodgers sparks free agent talk

Former Celtic loanee Moi Elyounoussi was playing his cards close to his chest amid speculation a return to Parkhead is on the cards after leaving Southampton.

The 28-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the month as his St Mary's contract has been allowed to run down following their relegation from the English Premier League. The Norwegian impressed during his two seasons at Celtic under Neil Lennon and John Kennedy but they were unable to get a permanent deal done and he returned to his parent club.

He lifted a Treble during his first season at Celtic Park before the nightmare to land 10 In A Row brought the curtain down on his spell at the club. However, speculation has ramped up that return could be on the cards after Brendan Rodgers had been keen on bringing the Norway international to Leicester City last summer after he broke back into the Southampton first-team following his Parkhead exit.

Elyounoussi has left the door open for a move - but he is focussing on the Euro 2024 qualifiers double header against Scotland and Cyprus before deciding his future. He told the BBC: "Right now I am just focusing on the two games we have for Norway.

"After I will take a break and look at options. There are some already. It will depend on the whole package in terms of where and the contract situation, so it's going to be interesting to see where I land."
