Mohammed Kudus confirms Ajax January transfer stance amid Everton rumours

Ajax star Mohammed Kudus has ruled out a move to Everton in the January transfer window.

Kudus was wanted by the Blues in the closing weeks of the window, with one report at the time suggesting that a loan had been agreed. However, no deal ever fully materialised, despite rumours in the Netherlands suggesting the 22-year-old was refusing to train in order to force through a transfer to Goodison Park.

At the time it was claimed that the Dutch champions were insistent that they didn’t lose any more players after a summer of considerable outgoings. The saga is seemingly all forgotten about now as he has had a positive start to the new season with 10 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Kudus was on the scoresheet as Ajax were beaten by Liverpool in the Champions League at Anfield back in September. His name has been mentioned as one who Everton might target again in January, but the Ghanaian has no intention of leaving the Johan Cruijff ArenA during the winter window.

“Of course things changed after that,” he told Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad via Sport Witness when asked about wanting to leave in the summer.

“Especially that I started playing more. I believe that if – and we never know for sure – I had been given that chance, things could also have gone well or better.

“That’s how I felt at the time. I wanted to try something new. That’s normal in football. We all want to play. And if you don’t play, you have to look further to be able to do that.

“I am a player who likes to challenge himself. This is my third season here. We’ll see what the future brings. The most important thing is that I just keep performing for the team and the rest will follow naturally later.”

And when asked whether he will look to leave the Johan Cruijff ArenA in January, Kudus replied: “No, I don’t think so. I don’t think so."
