Naby Keita, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool injury latest with potential return dates

Liverpool are gearing up for their return to Premier League action as they take on Watford this weekend. The Reds welcome the Hornets to Anfield in the Saturday early kick-off, looking to pick up another vital three points.

Jurgen Klopp's side are one point behind leaders Manchester City going into this weekend's round of fixtures. Victory over Watford would see them leapfrog Pep Guardiola's outfit at least until City play against Burnley a couple of hours later.

Ahead of the game against Watford, Klopp provided an injury update on his squad and in particular a couple who had question marks over their fitness. While Klopp did speak about their fitness, he did not rule anyone out of Saturday's match.

Below is the latest on the injuries and absentees of the Liverpool squad.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Before the international break, Trent Alexander-Arnold was ruled out for 'weeks' with a hamstring injury, and did not feature in the victory over Forest.

As a result, he was withdrawn from Gareth Southgate's England squad as he set aside the two-week break to recover from the problem.

Photos emerged of the right-back taking part in some gym work as he built up his fitness. Klopp confirmed that the 23-year-old has returned to full training, and is in contention to play a part against Watford.

“Trent trained yesterday in parts and will be in full training today, and we’ll have to see what we do with it,” said Klopp in his pre-match press conference. “He wanted to go to the national team, just to make sure everybody (knows), but he couldn’t.

“If you could see the scans, with these pictures you cannot go anywhere. But sometimes injuries, thank god, are not that serious that you are out for five or six weeks, sometimes it’s two weeks and that’s the case with Trent

“It will be tight for tomorrow but it’s possible from what I hear. It’s different if you are part of team training, it depends on what you could do before and he was with our rehab and fitness department.

”It was really intense what he did before he trained with us. Physically he should be fine, but I have to make the decision about rhythm and these kinds of things.”

Naby Keita

The Liverpool midfielder was withdrawn from Guinea's squad for the international break after suffering from a knee problem.

Naby Keita has not been pictured taking part in training, and Klopp said in his latest press conference that he wasn't sure if the midfielder would be fit to face Watford.

“He trained once and then he felt it again, so we will need to see,” said Klopp in is pre-match press conference. “I’m not sure if he can be involved tomorrow.”

Andy Robertson

Shortly after the Liverpool players went away on international duty, Andy Robertson was confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 and faced a spell in self isolation.

The left-back missed Scotland's draw with Poland last week, but did feature in the friendly draw wit Austria earlier this week.

Robertson has been pictured in Liverpool training and looks set to be in contention to face Watford this weekend.

James Milner

James Milner has missed Liverpool's last two matches due to illness, being sidelined for the victories over Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, respectively.

Klopp did not offer an update on Milner's fitness after the win at the City Ground, but he has since been pictured taking part in full training and looks set to be part of the matchday squad.

Whether Klopp will start the veteran midfielder remains to be seen, though.
