Mohamed Salah told to leave Liverpool to win trophies by Egypt boss

Mohamed Salah has been told he may need to leave Liverpool soon in order to win trophies by Egypt boss Javier Aguirre.

The 26-year-old enjoyed an unforgettable debut campaign at Anfield following a £34m move from AS Roma in the summer of 2017.

His 44 goals - 32 of which came as part of a record-breaking Premier League haul - helped propel the Reds to a second consecutive top-four finish and the Champions League final.

However, defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev ensured Salah ended the season without any silverware to show for his remarkable efforts.

The Egyptian has now failed to pick up honours since helping Basel clinch the 2012-13 Swiss Super League title, while Liverpool have not won a trophy since the 2011-12 League Cup.

And Salah’s national team coach believes a change of club could be necessary to alleviate that drought.

Aguirre told Egyptian TV: “It may be better for him to leave in a season or two if Liverpool doesn’t win any titles.”

Salah helped keep Egypt’s bid to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations on track with a 90th-minute winner against Tunisia on Friday.
