Mohamed Salah surpasses Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres landmark at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has broken yet another record at Liverpool, surpassing previous fan favourites Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.

The Egyptian has become one of the Reds' most important players in recent years, which saw him rewarded with a lucrative new contract in the summer. This season has been a struggle for Salah, though, amid a general downturn in form for Jurgen Klopp 's side.

But he will hope that a hat-trick in midweek against Rangers can kickstart his campaign, in a similar way to how it set the Reds on their way to a thrashing of the Scottish Premiership giants. That hat-trick ensured he broke the record for the fastest hat-trick in a Champions League match.

And it has also seen him surpass the total goals scored for Liverpool by Suarez and Torres combined. Suarez scored 82 times in 133 appearances, while Torres notched 81 in his 142 outings for the Reds.

Salah's hat-trick against Ibrox took him to 164 goals, which he has achieved in 267 appearances, eight fewer than Torres and Suarez combined appearances. Following the 30-year-old's heroics in Glasgow, he was hailed by Liverpool boss Klopp.

"Typical Mo. Very important, the whole thing. How the boys adapted to it, to the positions, to the line-up, the reaction of the boys on the pitch. I thought everybody who started tonight played really well," he said.

"I cannot think of one player who didn’t have a good game; the two kids of the right and left wing, really good, Fabio and Harvey. And then when you can change like we changed tonight, if you can do that, the boys come on and are ready to contribute and things like this can happen.

"It’s a freak result and we all know that and we don’t make more of it than we should, but obviously it is the best we could have asked for and that is why I am pretty pleased. We all know when Mo, when it is running for him, he is exceptional, absolutely exceptional.

"Obviously a different position tonight coming on, it was just good. Of course, I hope for him that everything works well from now on, like I hope for us. We will have to work on it and that’s what we will do."

Salah is set to start on Sunday when Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield for the biggest game of their season so far. The Reds are currently 10th in the Premier League table, 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, but former Rangers star Ally McCoist believes Salah will be relishing the clash with City.

"You look at Liverpool tonight, second-half brilliant. Man City will look at Liverpool saying excellent second-half however, they’ll see one or two things they’ll fancy. Man City will fancy a little bit," he told BT Sport.

"However, Salah it looked like he was needing a bit of a boost, he’s not looked the same this season. Tonight he comes off the bench, mentally he’s gone from there back up to there, now you can guarantee he’ll be really looking forward to the weekend."
