Mohamed Salah says Liverpool ‘deserved’ to win Champions League final against Real Madrid

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah believes Jurgen Klopp’s side “deserved” to win the Champions League final.

Vinicius Jr scored the only goal of the game late last month as Real Madrid lifted their 14th European Cup in Paris, after a game in which Thibaut Courtois made a number of world-class saves.

Salah himself had six shots on target as the former Chelsea stopper produced a masterclass, with Courtois urging English fans to “respect” him after returning to form in the Spanish capital.

Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz also went close as Carlo Ancelotti’s saw the game out and returned to the top of the continental game.

Klopp vowed his side would return next season, with that having been their third Champions League final appearance in four years.

After losing the 2018 edition in Kyiv, Salah had spoken of wanting “revenge” against the Spanish giants, almost half a decade on from the injury nightmare that curtailed his appearance in the 30th-minute.

Speaking to French outlet L’Equipe, Salah said: “We deserved to win, we had more chances, I got two or three quite big ones but, each time, Thibaut Courtois made incredible saves.

“It’s his job, Real recruited him for that. He earned his Man of the Match award. It was his evening.”
