Mohamed Salah's Liverpool prediction will worry Newcastle after rousing James Milner pep talk

Mohamed Salah believes the 'old' Liverpool is on its way back just in time for the trip to St James' Park this weekend. Newcastle United welcome Jurgen Klopp's side to Tyneside for Saturday's late kick-off after watching them beat Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside Derby.

Liverpool have struggled this season after an injury-laden campaign at Anfield. However, a win this weekend would see Liverpool move to within six points of Newcastle and a top-four spot.

Salah was back among the goals on Monday evening and says a positive pep talk from Liverpool veterans Jordan Henderson and James Milner has the Reds believing they are close to returning to top form.

“Captains, Hendo and Milly, were speaking last week and they spoke again yesterday," Salah told Sky Sports. “Like ‘guys, we have to play our football, we need to enjoy [it], because we’ve been together for five or six years, we have new players so there is no point to play as we started.

“I think we managed to play good, as you say it looks like the old Liverpool, that’s also my opinion since last week.”

Liverpool boss Klopp doesn't seem to agree with Salah and moved quickly to play down premature talk of Liverpool being back to their very best.

"We have to prove it," the German told BBC Sport. "We cannot now say, 'That's it. We are back'. That would be really dumb, but it felt like us, it looked like us.

"It's not the best timing but if that's the moment, we take it and let's go from here - but we have to keep going. Very interesting and difficult games to play, but I think with that tonight everyone starts believing a little bit more again in us. It felt just like a massive relief after the game to be honest that we could play the game we played. Now, let's carry on."
