Mohamed Salah reveals why he signed Liverpool contract in new message to fans

Mohamed Salah says he signed a new contract with Liverpool as he believes that the club can win trophies.

Salah ended long-running speculation around his future on Friday morning by penning a two-year extension at Anfield.

The forward’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of this season and he had been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

However, Salah has now committed himself to Liverpool until the summer of 2027 and his desire to lift further major honours was the driving force behind that decision.

“If I don’t believe that, I would have not signed. I believe the team can win trophies,” Salah told Liverpool’s official website.

“With the support of the fans and the city, and the support they always give us in the games, I believe we can win many trophies in the next years.

“I think I said in the beginning of the season, I just want to win the Premier League more than anything else. I want it so bad, to be fair.

“The fans deserve it – last time we won it we didn’t celebrate it that much. Hopefully we do it this time. There’s still seven games to go, it’s not going to be easy at all because Arsenal are also catching up.

“We’ll give it our all and hopefully in the end we can win it.”

Salah has enjoyed a stunning season, scoring 32 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions so far. He has also chipped in with 22 assists.

The 32-year-old has been a star for Liverpool ever since he joined in 2017 from Roma and sits third in the club’s all-time top scorers list, with 243 goals in 394 appearances.

Salah has claimed seven major honours at Liverpool, winning the Premier League and Champions League as well as the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.

The Egyptian has also won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions and sits in pole position for a fourth - but he is hungry for more.

“Of course I’m very excited,” he said. “We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team.

“But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together.

“Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
