Mohamed Salah one Premier League goal away from Thierry Henry record after Leicester City 'hat-trick'

After notching a hat-trick of assists during Liverpool's victory over Leicester City on Monday night, Mohamed Salah is on the cusp of becoming the first Premier League player to tally 20 goals and 10 assists in three different seasons.

The Egyptian laid on all three goals at the King Power Stadium as the Reds romped to a stunning 3-0 victory to keep their faint hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League alive. Salah turned provider for Curtis Jones' first half brace and later Trent Alexander-Arnold's postage-stamp curler after a cute free-kick routine between the pair.

For Salah, it takes his season's tally to 19 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League and only Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Ivan Toney have posted better numbers in England's top flight despite Liverpool's struggles throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

PLAYER RATINGS: Curtis Jones and one other brilliant against Leicester

It means if the 30-year-old is able to find the back of the net in either of the Reds' final two games against Aston Villa or Southampton, then he will become the first player in the Premier League's 31-year history to boast 20 goals and 10 assists in three separate campaigns.

As it stands, Salah has done so on two occasions. Firstly, during his debut campaign on Merseyside as he broke the Premier League record for the number of goals in a 38-game season (32) while adding a further 10 assists. He also repeated the landmark four years later during the 2021/22 campaign when he recorded 23 goals and 13 assists as Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on the Premier League despite recording 92 points.

Henry, meanwhile, managed such a feat on two separate occasions during his eight seasons in North London, with his most prolific return of 24 goals and 20 assists coming in the 2002/03 season as Arsenal finished runners-up to Manchester United. In the 2004/05 season, he returned 25 goals and 14 assists across 32 Premier League appearances.

Despite not scoring at the King Power Stadium as he spurned a gilt-edged opportunity to apply the gloss on a scintillating performance in the Midlands, Salah is also on course to become the first Liverpool player to net 20 league goals in three consecutive seasons since the late Roger Hunt did so between 1961-62 to 1965-66.

Such records have come almost as second nature to the Egyptian since his transfer to Anfield from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, with the forward drawing level with the legendary Steven Gerrard in the club's all-time scoring charts after scoring his 186th goal for the club during the victory against Brentford last time out.

Speaking on his latest achievement, Salah said: "It is something that makes me proud. I am motivated to keep breaking record and win games for the team. I would like to score better goals than that but will take it for a very important three points."

While Klopp added: "People maybe don’t appreciate [Salah] enough. For us it is clear, I know he is proud of 30 goals, first to score in nine consecutive home goals. The numbers are outrageous."
