Mohamed Salah makes a point to send message to fans after Liverpool contract dispute

Mohamed Salah has told fans he is determined to win more trophies with Liverpool after his new long-term contract was officially announced.

The Egyptian, who was due to become a free agent next summer, has now secured his future, with a deal at Anfield which will run until the summer of 2025. Salah is coming off the back of another fine season for the Reds, which saw him score 31 goals in all competitions winning the PFA Player of the Season in the process.

Having signed from Roma in 2017, Salah has emerged as one of Liverpool ’s greatest ever players, boasting an incredible scoring record of 156 goals in 254 appearances. But speculation surrounding his future has been incessant, with contract negotiations lasting for months.

Salah’s strike partner Sadio Mane was in a similar predicament, but opted to leave Merseyside for Bayern Munich when his request to become the club’s highest paid player was rejected.

It was a different result for his old team-mate however, with the 29-year-old set to become Liverpool’s highest paid player ever at more than £350,000-per-week. During his time at Anfield, Salah has lifted almost every major honour available and was part of a side that came desperately close to an unprecedented quadruple in the 2021/22 season.

However, after losing out in the Champions League final and failing to usurp Manchester City in the title race, they ended with the FA Cup and League Cup. Despite Mane’s departure, Liverpool have continued to strengthen with the signing of Darwin Nunez and Salah is confident that their upward trend will continue - with eyes on winning more major honours in the years to come.

He told the club’s official site: “I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone.

“It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next.

“I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards]. Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.

“I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again.”

Salah has always remained adamant that the impasse over the new deal was never financially driven and has now told supporters that his only goal is to continue winning silverware under Jurgen Klopp.

“My message [to the fans] is the players in the team want to give our best next season to try to win all the trophies,” Salah added. “As usual, you stay behind us and give us a big push and I am sure we are going to win trophies again [together].”
