Mohamed Salah holidays in Greece after coming out on top in Liverpool contract dispute

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been celebrating his new Liverpool contract by holidaying on the Greek island of Mykonos.

The Egyptian international and three-time Premier League golden boot winner put pen to paper on Friday and signed an extending new deal with Jurgen Klopp's side, keeping him at Anfield until 2025, increasing his wages up to £350,000 a week, and making him the highest-paid player in the club's history.

It ends a very lengthy contract dispute between Salah and the Reds with the striker's initial deal expiring at the end of June 2023, leaving the Reds needing to meet his wage demands in order to avoid losing their star forward for a low fee.

After getting his way in the financial battle, Salah spoke out about his new contract, which he signed while holidaying in Mykonos ahead of the 2022/23 campaign starting next month.

Salah told the club's website: "I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It's a happy day for everyone.

"It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what's next. I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards]. Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season, we lost two trophies.

"I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again."

Celebrating the deal, Salah has been pictured on Principote beach following a long campaign that saw him come runner-up in the Premier League and play in the finals of the Champions League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Principote is the same area Manchester City summer signing Erling Haaland was pictured partying with new Sky Blues teammate Riyad Mahrez. Jack Grealish and Manchester United duo Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire have also previously visited.

After a decline in his performances during the second half of the season, Salah and Liverpool received some criticism from former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville.

When the deal was announced, Neville tweeted "Salah has played them hasn't he," followed by two laughing face emojis and another emoji of a winking face.

Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Salah has scored 156 times in 254 appearances in all competitions, winning the Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup in that time. He sits ninth on the club's all-time scorer list.
