Mohamed Salah goal celebration explained as he brings back yoga gesture against Man Utd

Mohamed Salah brought back his 'yoga' celebration during Liverpool's mauling of Manchester United.

The reds moved two points ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League title race with a 4-0 win over their rivals at Anfield. Salah scored two with Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane also getting on the scoresheet.

The Egyptian ended a mini drought of six games without a goal as he doubled Liverpool's lead in the first half. He then wrapped up the three points with the Merseyside club's fourth goal of the game.

Salah performed his infamous 'yoga' celebration where he stood in front of supporters, raised his left leg to the knee on his right leg and put his hands together in prayer. The pose, which is known as 'the tree' in yoga, signifies balance and grounding, which many believe is the forward expressing his commitment to Liverpool.

Salah debuted it towards the end of the 2018-19 season scoring Liverpool's second in their 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Anfield, but hasn't used it in a while. "I am a yoga man!" a delighted Salah told Sky Sports after that game. "I do yoga and it just came into my mind."

Salah has also produced the celebratory pose in games for Egypt and is one of his go-to methods of celebrating a goal along with his 'nose' celebration and his outstretched arm celebration. Salah's prayer celebration called the 'sujud' is his most iconic, however, where he goes to his knees, placing his head on the ground.

The act is also performed by a number of Muslim footballers across the world, including Salah's team-mate Sadio Mane. "It's not kissing the ground," the former Roma star told CNN in 2018. "It's something like praying or like thank God for what I have received, but yeah, it's just praying and praying for a win.

"[I’ve] always done that since I was young, everywhere.” Salah was delighted with Liverpool's win over United and insists Ralf Rangnick's men made it "easy" for them.

"In midfield they make our life easier. We have a clean sheet here and there. Once we get the first goal, we want the second and the third. It was a top performance by us and hopefully, we continue.

"I score many goals for this club. Sometimes you have bad luck. The most important thing is the team winning. We just need to focus on ourselves and the rest is not in our hands."
