Mohamed Salah could be set for two new Liverpool records against Manchester United

Mohamed Salah could make another couple of records his own on Sunday when Liverpool welcome fierce rivals Manchester United to Anfield.

The Reds have their eyes on a place in the top four in the Premier League after Wednesday's win over Wolves took them to within six points of Tottenham Hotspur, while United have an outside chance at challenging for the title.

Salah is currently level with Steven Gerrard on eight Premier League goals against bitter rivals United, one more goal will see him take the outright lead as the top scoring player in this fixture in the league.

The Egyptian already holds the record for the most goals in the fixture across all competitions, having scored 10 times in just 11 games against United since joining the club back in 2017.

And it's not the only record Salah could break today - the 30-year-old sits just one goal behind Robbie Fowler's record of 128 goals in the Premier League, meaning he could become Liverpool's top scorer in the competition later today.

"I'm aware of the records, this one especially," said the 30-year-old. "For me it's really special. When I came, after my first season I had like 31 goals and I was like, 'I want to be the top scorer for Liverpool in the Premier League'. It's something I am really chasing.

"I have some good records at Liverpool. To be fair, as long as we achieve something with the team that's the most important thing for me. I'm so happy and proud to break records and win trophies in a team like Liverpool. I don't want to be in a smaller team and I'm the only one breaking records and that's it."

Salah added: "It would be nice to have the record in this big game especially against United. We know the relationship between United and Liverpool. Of course there is extra motivation but whoever scores (against United) I'm happy with it. Whenever the record comes I'll be happy, but this game we just need to win because we want to be closer to the top four."
