Jurgen Klopp rejects Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane Liverpool contract claim

Jurgen Klopp says the result of Saturday's Champions League final will have no impact on the contract situations of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, writes Paul Gorst.

Both players will enter the final 12 months of their Anfield deals in June and while Liverpool are hopeful of retaining the pair beyond, there has been little in the way of anything public from either players' camp or the club at this stage.

The Reds are keen to discuss terms later this summer once a 63-game campaign has come to an end and Klopp says the European Cup final in Paris will hold no sway on what happens over Salah, Mane or Naby Keita, who is also entering his final year.

"Will the result impact contract talks? No, not at all," said the Liverpool boss. "If we win it, will they want to go? We are in talks with all the players. It is just not the moment to talk about everything."

With the League Cup and FA Cup already safely stored in the trophy cabinet, the Reds head to Paris for the Champions League final against Real Madrid later this week for their 63rd and final game of a season that saw them finish with 92 points in the Premier League.

The third highest points tally of all time at Anfield was not enough to bring about a 20th league title, however, as they were pipped to the championship by Manchester City's return of 93. Despite that last-day heartbreak on Sunday, Liverpool head to the French capital in buoyant mood following an exceptional domestic year.

Liverpool chairman Werner was at Anfield on Sunday alongside fellow FSG members Mike Gordon and John W Henry and the trio will all be at the Stade de France on Saturday when Klopp's treble-hunters meet the 13-time champions of Europe in a repeat of the 2018 final.
