Mohamed Kudus breaks silence after failed transfer

Mohammed Kudus has broken his silence on his failed move to Everton this summer.

The 22-year-old was reportedly closing on a move to Goodison Park over the summer, with rumours suggesting the player was refusing to train in a bid to force a move away. But said move never materialised after Ajax sold Anthony - the Dutch side not wanting to lose another key player with such little time to replace him.

Kudus had made no comment on the speculation since the close of the window, instead enjoying a flying start to the new season in the Netherlands with seven goals in 10 games across all competitions - including a wonderstrike at Anfield against Liverpool last week.

But the Ghanian forward has now spoken out on his rumoured move to Merseyside, admitting it was an opportunity he ‘wanted to try’.

Everton’s overspending over last decade

Everton are among the top 10 teams in Europe with the highest overspending on player transfers, according to findings from the CIES Football Observatory.

Clubs across the continent were ranked on how much they overspent on individual transfers, compared to the player value at the time of the move - estimated using an exclusive model from CIES - and ranked via total overspending through a 10-year period.

The Toffees had 29 major signings analysed with a total expenditure of €747million, which was €97million more than the market value of the players bought - a 15% average increase. The Merseyside club were not the worst offenders in the Premier League however, with Manchester United topping the table at €238million spent above the odds.
