Australia's winter Olympians - present and future - will be able to train in state-of-the-art facilities after the National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC) officially opened in Jindabyne in the NSW Snowy Mountains.
The $12.7 million multi-purpose world class training facility was opened by Olympic gold medal-winning mogul skier Jakara Anthony and NSW premier Chris Minns.
It was funded in partnership by Snow Australia and the NSW government with contributions from John Hancock, the Office of Sport, the NSW Institute of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport.
Anthony described the NSTC as a game-changer.
"The National Snowsports Training Centre is such an important training facility not only for our current top athletes but also those coming through the pathways," Anthony said in a statement.
"Winter sports in Australia has just had a record breaking season so it is exciting to think about where the future is heading now that we have world class facilities like this on home soil."
The NSTC features a cutting-edge strength and conditioning gymnasium, acrobatic equipment, medical and performance health treatment rooms, and an outside airbag training facility, which provides ski and snowboard athletes a unique opportunity to develop new skills in a safe environment before transferring to snow.
The nation's winter athlete contingent produced their best-ever results in the 2023-24 season, collecting five Crystal Globes for topping the FIS World Cup standings across Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.
They recorded 53 World Cup podium performances, including 18 victories during the northern hemisphere winter.
The facility, which is open to the community, will also be used for high performance summer camps, for sports such as rowing, athletics, swimming and canoe sprint.
