Moffat Community Council has called a public meeting for Tuesday on the provision of doctor services in the town.
The regional health board will be represented at the event in the town hall from 7pm.
The aim is to discuss the way forward for GP provision when the current contractor, Lanarkshire-based Alba Medical Group, leaves in the spring.
A spokesperson for the community council said: “We need as many people as possible to come to this meeting. It affects us all.”
Alba took over the provision of services for 9,800 patients in Moffat and Lockerbie on April 1 last year.
It followed a recruitment drive by NHS Dumfries and Galloway to secure full-time permanent GPs to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the two medical centres.
But the Alba contract has been beset with problems and complaints from patients.
Concerns about the service have been raised in the Scottish Parliament.
Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting Moffat community councillors have called on the NHS to be “more open” about the procurement process for attracting a new contractor to run the GP surgeries.
