Modo releases statement after bouncer assault

A Liverpool city centre club has apologised after a doorman working on a shift there brutally assaulted a customer.

David Young broke Ratislav Marton’s jaw and also assaulted Mr Marton’s brother Matus in a shocking incident back in November 2019.

Young walked free from court yesterday after a judge suspended his nine month prison term for wounding Mr Marton.

In the aftermath of the case, Modo released a statement saying they were “extremely sorry” and confirming they had cut ties with Young, who had been contracted through a third party company, as soon as the event happened.

CCTV played in court showed Young approaching Mr Marton after a glow stick he had been waving around hit him after Mr Marton dropped it.

After a short conversation, Young hits Mr Marton numerous times before later putting him in a headlock and dragging him out of the club.

Modo said they stopped employing Young for shifts when the incident happened and confirmed he was later sacked by his employer.

Modo’s statement said: “We are extremely sorry that this incident took place, Mr Young was not a direct employee of ours but was enrolled on behalf of our third-party security company.

“We never condone violence and always want to ensure the safety of our team and guests are a priority.

“Mr Young was removed from the venue at the time and was dismissed by his employer also. We constantly review our security team and processes to ensure we have the right people on site.”

A court heard Young, 33, also lost his licence to operate as a security guard.
