Modest Mouse drummer Jeremiah Green has been diagnosed with stage four cancer, his mum has said.
The musician, 45, was called "strong and brave" by his mother as she told fans the news on Christmas Day.
Jeremiah's mum Carol Namatame said that her son was "hanging in there" and asked for everyone to "send healing vibes".
She didn't expand on the type of cancer that he had been diagnosed with.
Carol wrote on Facebook on Sunday: "Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah Green, who is battling stage 4 cancer. He is so strong and so brave and hanging in there!"
Jeremiah formed rock band Modest Mouse in 1993 and is one of the co-founding members alongside Eic Judy and Isaac Brock.
A friend of Jeremiah's - radio DJ Marco Collins - also claimed that he pulled out of the band's tour because he is undergoing chemo treatment.
He added that despite having a stage four diagnosis, his "prognosis is good".
Marco wrote on Facebook with a photo of Jeremiah: "Just found out my friend Jeremiah Green (Modest Mouse) has pulled off the band’s tour because he is currently undergoing chemo treatments to battle Stage 4 Cancer.
"Despite having a stage 4 diagnosis, his prognosis is good! Also his oncologist is a big MM fan (so he’s got that in his corner!)
"Sending him nothing but love & healing energy! Get well buddy. We’re all pulling for you!"
Jeremiah's mum commented on the post, writing with a heart emoji: "Very kind of you Marco. Thank you."
Marco replied: "Carol Namatame of course Carol. If there’s anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to ask."
"Marco Collins thank you for your love and caring," she replied.
Fans also took to social media to send their best wishes, with one writing: "Sending peace & love and keeping you in my prayers, Jeremiah!"
While another commented: "Jeremiah Green, the drummer for Modest Mouse, has stage four cancer. he’s only 45 and has young kids. seriously hoping and praying for his healing and comfort and that he can pull through."
