Mo Salah's emotional tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Liverpool star Mohammed Salah shared an emotional tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral.

The Reds attacker shared a post on Instagram with a black and white portrait of the Queen as he paid tribute to the late monarch. He posted the tribute on Monday, September 19, the day she was laid to rest in Windsor.

The post read: "Today, the people of Great Britain and the world pay tribute and bid a final farewell to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, commemorating her legacy and unwavering service.

"My thoughts are with the Royal Family on this historic and emotional day."

Following the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey, the Last Post sounded at the conclusion of the service and was followed by a national two minutes silence. The Queen's coffin was then drawn through the centre of London to Wellington Arch via The Mall, passing Buckingham Palace for the final time.

The coffin was then transported to Windsor Castle, where The Queen was laid to rest in a small chapel at the side of St George's Chapel where her mother and father are. She will be laid to rest with her husband Prince Philip whose coffin has been resting in the Royal Vault since he died.

Prince Philip’s coffin will move from the Royal Vault to the memorial chapel to join the Queen’s, the Mirror reports. The Queen's coffin was made for her more than 30 years ago, by the same firm that made the casket in which the Duke of Edinburgh lies buried.

When Prince Philip passed away in April 2021, it was confirmed he would not be buried until the Queen's death. Prince Philip will be moved so he can join his wife for the final time and they can be laid to rest together.

Apart from the Duke of Edinburgh, there are currently 24 other royals buried at the Royal Vault. These include Prince Edward, father of Queen Victoria, two of George III''s sons Prince Alfred and Prince Octavius, and mother of Queen Mary Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck.
