MNKY HSE fire: Terrifying blaze in London restaurant as diners scream and rush to escape

A huge fire has been filmed ripping through a Latin American restaurant in London with diners screaming as they rushed to escape.

Police and fire crews were also pictured rushing to the MNKY HSE restaurant on Dover Street in Mayfair on Friday night.

A reveller has reportedly said that the fire spread quickly, taking hold “within seven seconds” and that there was immediate shock before screams as people tried to leave the building.

Social media footage appears to show fire ripping through a room with people hurriedly trying to escape and some still holding their drinks.

A video shows some people having to duck under a fire to get to a door with decoration on the ceiling ablaze.

Others can be heard screaming "go" as they head out and a person can be seen falling to the ground.

The trendy restaurant is popular with celebrities including from Love Island with some dining there in August after a reunion episode.

London Fire Brigade said they were called out at 9.40pm with a blaze in the basement of the building.

Five fire engines and 35 firefighters arrived at the restaurant but the fire had already been put out, and thermal imaging was used to check everything was in order.

Two people were treated for injuries by ambulance staff.

London Fire Brigade stated: "Firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant on Dover Street in Mayfair.

"Christmas decorations inside the building were alight and had been extinguished before firefighters arrived. Around 300 people were evacuated by on-site staff and crews carried out a systematic search of the property to ensure no one was inside on arrival. A man and a woman were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

"Dover Street was closed whilst crews worked to make the scene safe. The Brigade was called at 2140 and the incident was over for firefighters by 2218. Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters from Soho, Lambeth, Kensington and Chelsea fire stations attended the scene.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."

Considering the force of the fire some people on social media commented on the calm way people left the restaurant.

One person mentioned how they “casually walked out” and another said “why do they look so calm?”

Another joked: “Amazing how no one left their drinks behind.”

There were around 300 people in the restaurant at the time, with the incident coming around its busiest time of the year, and they were evacuated by the security staff.
