MMA star Mauro Chaulet 'shot dead by military police' after violent altercation in Brazil

MMA star Mauro Chaulet died after allegedly being shot by a member of the military police in Brazil, according to local media reports.

Chaulet, 34, is claimed to have been engaged in an altercation with a military police officer at a bar in his home city of Porto Alegre. The incident - which took place last week - escalated to violent proportions, with Radio Guaiba's website claiming that the fighter died of a gunshot wound, while a female acquaintance of Chaulet's was also shot but survived.

It's added that the shooting took place around midnight at Auma Bar, an establishment located in the Floresta neighbourhood in the northern part of Porto Alegre. Reports elsewhere claim that Chaulet's female companion was at first involved in an argument with another woman accompanying the police officer, who was off duty.

Further claims from Radio Guaiba, who cite the incident report, state that the officer took a shot to the groin area during the ensuing scuffle with Chaulet. It remains unclear who fired the first shot during the violent altercation.

Reportedly, Chaulet was shot in the back, while the female he was with was shot twice to the stomach. It's then alleged that the 34-year-old attempted to flee the scene in his Mercedes-Benz C 250.

He's said to have taken a shot at a pursuing garrison, who retaliated, having been alerted to the situation by bar regulars. Shortly afterwards, Chaulet is claimed to have crashed his car into a Fiat Palio.

The fighter died at the scene due to the nature of his injuries. Both the woman Chaulet was with and the officer involved were rushed to Hospital de Pronto Socorro with life-threatening injuries and are now each said to be in stable condition.

Chaulet, a veteran of MMA promotions such as LFA, CFFC, CES and Jungle Fight, was represented by MMA Management company Team Goat Management. A TGM statement read: "Unfortunately, today we lost another great person, victim of the brutal violence in Brazil that is repeated every day. You were special and will never be forgotten for us!!! RIP @maurochaulet"

His professional MMA record stood at 13 wins and nine losses. Chaulet's last three fights all ended in defeat, the most recent of which came in May 2022 for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
