MMA journalist Ariel Helwani took aim at Declan Rice after he 'turned his back on the great people of Ireland'.
Helwani is a Nottingham Forest fan and took to social media when Rice scored for West Ham in their 4-0 win over Steve Cooper's side.
Posting on Twitter, Rice said: "Never liked Declan Rice ever since he turned his back on the great people of Ireland tbh".
Rice played for the Republic of Ireland three times before switching his allegiance to England.
Since then, he has been a mainstay in the team and started in the Euro 2020 final and all throughout England's World Cup campaign.
And Irish social media were quick to back Helwani with one user saying: "Someone get Ariel a pint".
While another said: "I love @arielhelwani".
And another added: "Ireland welcomes you, Ariel".
