Embattled umpire Ángel Hernández had another brutal night behind the plate Wednesday, producing some hilarious reactions from broadcasters in the process.
Hernández had home plate responsibilities for the Marlins’ matchup with the Dodgers and, as usual, missed plenty of calls. According to Umpire Scorecard, less than 80% of the pitches he called strikes were actually in the zone, and Umpire Auditor counted 18 total missed calls on the night for the much-maligned Hernández.
A few of those misses generated priceless reactions from both teams’ broadcasters, including an exasperated sigh from the Dodgers booth and a, “That was a called strike, huh?” from the Marlins’ crew.

Those misses continue a brutal year for Hernández, whose ineptitude calling balls and strikes remains hard to fathom. He has more than 12 calls in five of his six times behind home plate this season, a mark topped in just 24% of total games umpired across the sport, per Codify Baseball.
Umpires have missed a dozen or more balls and strikes calls in 24% of all MLB games so far this year.

While his misses are no longer new news, fans still went out of their way to chide Hernández on social media after another bad night.

This guy is a clown lol, how is he still a M-L-B official? Like this is the Major League - no? Blows my mind. A preformance review is desperately needed. https://t.co/W4EOKvREmn

Remember when he didn't ump in the big leagues for like half the year? Yeah, that was a good half https://t.co/HsR7HjbRnF

One in five called strikes were actually balls and he still gets to affect a major league game every few days. Worst umpire in baseball https://t.co/gJz0NzBnnQ
