SEATTLE - It was a successful weekend for Luis García Jr. at the nation's capital. In three games over the Toronto Blue Jays, the National's second baseman had a series for the ages, going 7-for-9 with two home runs, eight RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base as the Nationals took two of the three games in the series.

Despite having a quiet season so far, García almost matched his offensive output of the season in his three games against the Blue Jays. Entering the weekend, García only had one home run in 2024. In three games, he had the same RBI (8) as in his previous 18 games

He opened the series against the Blue Jays with a three-run homer on his first pitch to give the Nationals the lead late in the game.

Two days later, García followed that with perfect 4-for-4 outing, his first game with four or more hits since he had six against the Royals last May.

One of those hits cleared the fences and traveled more than 400 feet for his third homer of the season. On top of his home run in the third inning, García ignited the National's comeback with another single in the fourth inning, overcoming a six-run deficit.

After trailing for most of the ballgame, the Nationals finally took control of the situation in the seventh inning and never looked back.

Only Shohei Ohtani (8) connected with the ball more times than García's seven over the weekend. The Dominican second baseman led the Majors in batting average (.778) and on-base percentage (.818) between May 3-5.
