SEATTLE - Elly De La Cruz continues to impress fans and peers alike every time he takes on the field. This past weekend, the young Dominican gave everyone another taste of his talents by helping the Cincinnati Reds complete a sweep over the Anaheim Angels in California.
De La Cruz contributed in all three wins, finishing the series with four hits, four RBI and three stolen bases, taking his total to 10 stolen bases this season, the most by any player in the Majors so far.
De La Cruz's best outing of the weekend came on Friday, April 19, when he went 2-for-4 including a three-run homer and three stolen bases.
What De La Cruz did over the weekend was quite historic. According to MLB's Sarah Langs, he became the fourth youngest player to record a single game with a HR and 3+ SB since at least 1901, joining fellow Latino Fernando Tatís Jr., who also achieved it in 2019.

De La Cruz is having a fantastic season so far, averaging splits of .306/.412/.639/1.051, all while hitting six homers and adding 10 stolen bases. Since 1900, only one other player has had at 5+ HR and 10+ SB in the first 20 games of a season and that was Ken Williams for the St. Louis Browns more than 100 years ago.
If he can keep it up, De La Cruz would be on pace to set records never seen before in the Majors. According to various projection models, the Dominican is expected to finish the season with 20+ homers and 30+ stolen bases in just his second season in Major League Baseball.
