SEATTLE - After a turbulent few days at the New York Mets' clubhouse, things got slightly better as the team snapped a three-game losing streak in a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field.
After an incident that ended up with Jorge López being cut from the team and another late implosion against the Dodgers, veteran shortstop Francisco Lindor reportedly called for a team meeting to reset things after a disappointing run that has the Mets 15.5 games behind the Phillies in the NL East division.
"This is not about being the main character... who called the team meeting, that's not what this is about. Anybody could have a good night tonight and I would've been happy. It just worked out it was me. Tomorrow is gonna be someone else's," Lindor said after the game.
Even though he does not like being the main character, his four hits, two RBI and additional homer made him the hero of the night. It was his second game of the season with four hits, a badly needed performance for the Mets whom, after their win against the D-backs, sit on a 2-8 record in their last 10 games.
Lindor started off with a hit and a stolen base in the first inning. He then added a 431-foot home run to left field in the third, his ninth of the season. He finished the game 4-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to nine games in which he is batting for .375 with six RBI and two homers.
Despite the Mets' recent struggles in terms of results and personnel, Lindor remains confident that they can turn it around after the positive team meeting. "I feel like vibes are the most important thing on a daily basis," he said. "You got to be optimistic, you got to stay upbeat, you got to stay in a state of mind where you believe you can do anything."
If the Mets want to turn things around and make it to the postseason, they will need those same vibes. With a record of 23-33, only the Marlins and the Rockies (both 20) have won fewer games than the New York Mets among teams in the National League
