SEATTLE - It was a home run party in San Diego on June 20, as the Padres connected a total of four homers, including a walk-off dinger by Jake Cronenworth, to take the first game of the series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
With the game on the line and two outs on the scoreboard, Cronenworth saved the day with San Diego's fourth homer of the game. Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. also contributed with one HR each, but Tatis Jr. was the most consistent out of the bunch.
The Dominican started out with two singles before connecting a 446-foot home run in the fifth inning to give the Padres a two-run advantage over the visitors. He added another single at the bottom of the seventh for his second four-hit game of the season.
Prior to going off against the Brewers, Tatis Jr. was struggling to find his best form. In the eight-game stretch between his last home run and yesterday's 446-footer, Tatis Jr. had gone 5-for-27 with only two extra-base hits.
A confident Tatis Jr. flipped bis bat after sending the ball near the second deck of the stadium for his 14th big fly of the season. "That one felt really good. It definitely got me swaggy," Tatis said.
San Diego will play three more games against the Brewers before hosting the Washington Nationals next weekend. The Padres are desperately looking for a series win, having dropped the last two series in a row. Since the start of June, the only series the Padres have been able to win was against the Athletics, winning all three games at home.
