The Angels, Dodgers and Padres will head into Saturday with reshuffled gameday plans as the Southern California area faces the rare, looming threat of Hurricane Hilary, MLB announced Friday.
Originally slated for individual home games on Saturday, both Los Angeles clubs and San Diego will now play split doubleheaders after Sunday’s scheduled games were bumped to Saturday afternoon in response to the latest weather forecasts.
The changes will see the Padres face the Diamondbacks at 12:10 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. local time, the Dodgers host the Marlins at 12:00 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. and Angels play the Rays at 1:07 p.m. and 6:07 p.m.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Hilary churned off Mexico’s Pacific coast Friday as a Category 4 storm, and is expected to weaken and become a tropical storm before making landfall in California by Sunday.
The tropical storm would be the region’s first since 1939, and is set to bring major rainfall and winds up to 145 MPH in SoCal, the Southwestern U.S., parts of Mexico and across the Baja California peninsula.
With L.A., San Diego and the surrounding region preparing for potentially devastating weather, it remains to be seen if the Angels, Dodgers and Padres could see additional changes to their upcoming schedules. The tropical storm is expected to peak Sunday and Monday, but the rain could persist through the middle of next week, per the NHC.
