The decision to postpone the games comes as Hurricane Helene approaches, accompanied by a cold front causing a slow-moving line of showers and storms in North Georgia. The National Weather Service has described the weather event as unprecedented for the region.
The series between the Mets and Braves was highly anticipated as it could determine the final playoff spots for the 2024 MLB season. Currently, the Mets hold a one-game lead over the Braves for a wild card spot, while the Braves trail the Arizona Diamondbacks by half a game for the third and final wild card position.
Following the postponements, the Mets are set to face the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend, while the Braves will host the Kansas City Royals. The rescheduled first pitch for the doubleheader on Monday is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET.
