Reds rookie Elly De La Cruz is becoming a daily highlight reel, which is great news for Major League Baseball because the league can use more young star players who make the game fun to watch.
You know what MLB doesn’t need? Crusty managers complaining about players having some fun while playing a game.
That happened after Wednesday night’s Reds-Nationals game when Washington manager Davey Martinez complained about De La Cruz’s home run celebration in the fifth inning. That homer came after Martinez asked the umpires in the second inning to take a look at De La Cruz’s bat, so one would understand how things got personal after the rookie’s 450-foot blast.
Here was his celebration:

Here's Martinez being bothered by a player having fun:
Nationals manager Dave Martinez on Elly De La Cruz:

“I love the way he plays the game, but I didn’t like his antics after he hit the home run. We can do without that. He’s only got two weeks in the big leagues. But he’s gonna be a good player.”

MLB fans rightfully ripped Martinez for those lame comments:
So glad that ppl like this are getting phased out of the #MLB ideology. Baseball is supposed to be fun for everyone. Let them celebrate. Hitting a baseball, let alone a home run, is supposed to be one of the hardest things in sports to do. Let them celebrate it. Loser ideology. https://t.co/9zz0xaJvWW

Take the L Davey https://t.co/3sSCVxWE7Y
Please, Dave Martinez, since you’re the arbiter of such matters, how many weeks of service time until a guy can celebrate a home run? 🙄 https://t.co/M8Q0uc4nsv

Lol. You weren’t supposed to like the antics. That was the point of the antics. Reds 9 Nationals 2. https://t.co/EspLQiIJ1Y

Nahhh, Davey u got this wrong. You challenged his bat, he gets a free pass to do what he likes on the tank. Plus, it's on every highlight reel. This is great for baseball. https://t.co/9SGWkVnYkw

MLB needs to suspend Dave Martinez for the rest of the season. https://t.co/FOR4aGUsRh

“Dave how did it feel to get absolutely clowned by a kid who’s been in the majors for two weeks?” https://t.co/nxfBlE5TdN

You call someone out for cheating,.. you end up being wrong.....then expect that opponent to treat you like an equal 😂 Thus why you guys are last in the NL, soft af 🤣🤣 #MLB #Cincinnati #Reds https://t.co/tAsAC3Izcb

Let the man have fun. I hope more young ball players bring more swagger into the game . If you don’t want him showing out strike him out simple . Football and Basketball plenty of trash talk and those sports thrive with ratings https://t.co/75Varw7gVk
