Bob Costas’ unenthusiastic call of the final out for the Arizona Diamondbacks in their Game 2 NLDS win over the Los Angeles Dodgers raised some eyebrows among baseball fans.
Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald retired Kolten Wong on a routine fly ball to center field to wrap up a 4–2 win. The victory pushed the Dodgers to the brink of elimination and the Diamondbacks closer to the NLCS, but you might not have known it from Costas’ monotone final call.
“Thomas, almost in his tracks, tucks it away, and the Arizona Diamondbacks, who finished 16 games behind the Dodgers in the regular season… come into Dodger Stadium and come away with a two-game lead as they go back to Arizona in this best-three-out-of-five,” Costas said rather matter-of-factly.

Costas isn’t known as an overly expressive baseball broadcaster, but some fans were still rubbed the wrong way by his seeming lack of enthusiasm.
Bob Costas might have fallen asleep during this call https://t.co/6PUF3bqBGp

We’ll see if Costas has any more excitement in what is sure to be a raucous environment for the Diamondbacks’ first home playoff game this postseason Wednesday night.
