After a near four-hour delay, the Mets' game against the Nationals on Saturday was suspended with one out in the top of the third inning and fans were not pleased.
When the first pitch was thrown, there was just light rain, but as the game progressed the precipitation increased. After less than an hour of play, the tarp was placed on the field with the Nationals leading 1–0 in the top of the third inning.
Although the tarp was eventually removed when the rain subsided, the grounds crew was unable to get the field back in playable condition.
Fans became irate when the game was eventually suspended, nearly four hours after the tarp initially hit the field. It was decided that the game would resume tomorrow as part of a split doubleheader.

Plenty of fans and media members voiced their frustration on social media after the hours-long wait resulted in a unsatisfying ending. The game will continue at 12:35 ET, then the second game of the doubleheader will begin at 4:35.
The @Nationals organization should be ashamed of themselves to do this to fans. Split doubleheader on Mother’s Day? @MLB should not have let this happen. https://t.co/VQktxrA8UZ

Gary Cohen said it best: "It's really shameful on the part of MLB to permit this to happen." Nearly 4-hour delay w/no word the entire time, and then the announcement of a separate-admission DH on Sunday, with Game 1 already in 3rd inn. You can't insult your fans more than that. https://t.co/tgL80fBq7O

After over 3 hours and change in time waiting and getting the field ready, finally the Nationals call the game.

They will make it part of a “split admission” double header tomorrow. This means that fans will have to pay DOUBLE.
Shameful by MLB making the fans wait. pic.twitter.com/u3jp5u1aS0
Todays Mets game was handled like absolute crap from get-go. I don’t know who you blame .. MLB? Nationals? Either way, big thumbs down.

Sorry to everyone that sat through with apparently zero updates for over 4 hours. Split doubleheader tomorrow.
Whoever is to blame for what happened tonight at Nationals Park should be taken to task

*Starting game on time was ridiculous
*Playing through downpour was dangerous
*4 hour rain delay was damn near unprecedented
*Doing all that to suspend game and screw the fans was insane
The year is 3228. The Earth’s population is down to 16 million, ravaged by climate change and wars. The people who remain live in caves and scrounge for survival.

The #Nationals are still in a rain delay.
Manfred, MLB and the Nationals should be ashamed
