The Major League Baseball All-Star Game features the best players from the American League and National League facing off in an exhibition of the world’s most skilled (and most highly paid) baseball talent.

Each year, it’s a game marked by towering home runs, acrobatic defensive plays, and ace pitching. Fans' favorite players find themselves sharing a dugout with their rivals, playing together as representatives of the game’s best. For the players, it’s a meaningful accomplishment that can represent a surreal culmination of their efforts.

“I think every kid will say this is the dream,” Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, a first-time All-Star, said before the event. “You want to be a big leaguer, but you don’t really understand it at all. So, I can sit here and say, ‘Yes, (this is the dream),’ but I don’t think 15-year-old me would really understand what that ‘yes’ means.”

The MLB All-Star Game is not just a dream come true for the participants. It puts some significant extra money in their pockets, draws millions of viewers, and offers a notable economic lift to its host city.

How much money MLB All-Star Game 2024 brings to Arlington, Texas

Each year, the MLB All-Star Game is accompanied by various activities and events that draw visitors worldwide, driving a significant windfall for local hotels, restaurants, and retailers.

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will bring nearly $100 million to Arlington, Texas, as fans look to celebrate their favorite game and players. And beyond the influx of dollars, it can offer a boost of notoriety for the host.

“We’re looking at $85 million in direct and indirect economic impact,” Matt Wilson, the Arlington Sports Commission executive director, said. “That’s obviously a huge lift to Arlington and all the areas around it, but I think what it does for us, even more so than that, is [it] gives us another thing to put on our roster of events.”

The total financial impact of the MLB All-Star Game can vary, with the 2013 event in New York City holding the current record at an estimated $191.5 million. However, as MLB sees continued revenue growth and boosts in attendance and viewership, this annual showcase is poised to bring more benefits than ever to the host cities.

“It’s not a local event, it’s not a regional event, even the United States — it’s a global event,” Wilson added. “As baseball has grown in popularity, overseas and at home, the eyes of the world will be on Arlington, Texas.”

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will be held in Atlanta’s Truist Park, and the 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be held in Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.

The MLB All-Star Game isn’t just a marquee event for fans or an economic boost for the host city.

It’s the chance for the best players in baseball to be rewarded for their hard work and skill. Players can earn as much as $36,325 with all-out participation in the event.

The winning MLB All-Star team receives a $25,000 prize per player. If a player opts to wear a microphone for the broadcast, they can receive an extra $10,000 bonus. In addition, they receive a $117.50 per day food benefit and $1,000 in spending cash for the event.

There are also six players who will receive a contract bonus for making the All-Star game, per their team contracts, worth a total of $350,000. Those player bonuses include:

MLB All-Star Game 2024: Details, How to Watch, Participants

The 94th MLB All-Star game will be played on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The game will start at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be played at Globe Life Field, the home of the Texas Rangers.
