MKM is embracing the small screen in a marketing first for the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant.
The company has launched a television advertising campaign to promote its MKM Home offering - a new showroom concept developed over the past couple of years, and launched in Hull.
It focuses on ‘bringing the imagination home,’ highlighting the firm's kitchen, bathroom and landscaping designs. Geo-targeting has been deployed via AdSmart across Sky TV to take it to households in the home city and wider East Yorkshire.

And local talent has been deployed too, with aptly named Star, a nine-year-old student at Hull's Northern Academy of Performing Arts, taking the lead role, while Simon Jones, the man behind the Humber’s Top 30 Under 30, has directed it, branching out from forays into videography as part of the presentation of the well-established leadership development programme.
Richard Gosling, general manager at MKM Home, part of the £818m turnover city giant, said: “It’s really exciting to be launching our first ever television ad for MKM, showcasing our market leading product ranges, in-store expertise and outstanding customer service.
“Whilst most people might think of us primarily as a builders merchant, our offering goes beyond the trade. We hope this new TV ad campaign will encourage more members of the public to pay MKM Home a visit – it might just inspire their next home renovation project.”
Launched after the buy-out and transformation of fellow city firm Brooke Ceramics, situated just a stone’s throw from MKM’s head office, the showroom is aimed at homeowners, with a smaller outlet now open in Grimsby.
The campaign across Sky will also tie in with another big promotional tool, the city’s MKM Stadium, where it will be shown. It comes after the firm published a robust set of accounts for the year that saw it open its 100th branch of its traditional offer.
